GFMUL is a Research Center of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Up to now, it has always been a Center of Excellence of this Foundation, i.e. has always obtained the highest classification, awarded periodically by panels of foreign mathematicians. [ -> latest comments and recommendations regarding GFM scientific activies ]
The GFM welcomes applications of excellent candidates for PhD and for post-doctoral positions. Those applications can come from Portugal or abroad. They will be considered on a competitive basis and in the limits of the resources made available to the GFM by the Portuguese national Science Foundation.
The basic aim of the Mathematical Physics Group (GFM) is to develop rigorous mathematical methods motivated by problems in modern Theoretical Physics. This is not only about making rigorous what physicists already know, but about providing them with new tools and ideas inspired by the most recent developments in the Mathematical Sciences.
The topics currently developed by the GFM members are situated in the following domains:

September 12-17, 2005: International Conference on Mathematical Analysis of Random Phenomena
The portuguese team participating in the European TMR Project Stochastic Analysis and its Applications (ERBFMRXCT960075) is constituted by some of the members of GFM.
